Have you ever been in the car and suddenly it hits you... you've got to GO? And can't wait until you get to your destination? So, you begin looking for the nearest place to stop. And if it's really URGENT, you just pull over on the side of the road(no, I haven't done this one YET.. i don't think). If you're on the go a lot or travel often, more than likely you've experienced this exact scenario. Unless you're like my husband. He does things just a little different (always has, if you ask me). Austin is a first class traveler, and he thought I should offer some "useful" information on my blog. "Stuff that people NEED TO KNOW."
So, here it is "according to Austin." The FYI on public bathrooms. When he feels the urge to GO he doesn't pull over, get off at the next exit, or stop at the nearest gas station- all of the things you've probably done before. Instead, he uses the trusty Garmin and searches for the nearest Starbucks or Walmart (I'll tell you why later). And yes, he will make U-turns and travel up to 10 miles in the opposite direction of his final destination, just to GO at either of these places. As you're reading this you're probably wondering WHY? I'll tell you. Because they're clean. He hasn't been desperate enough YET to try any other restrooms. He says he doesn't have to because there is either a Walmart or Starbucks on every corner. Which is usually true. Unless, you're "out west" in the mountains or desert. And that's the result of one of those "10-mile backtrack" instances to the nearest city (I know, from experience). So, here's why Starbucks and Walmart...
Starbucks: This is the #1 place, according to Austin. Again, why? Because it's the cleanest restroom in the nation (his opinion). And it's a one-person restroom (I added that tidbit). Which may not always be a pro, because it could mean you might have to wait in line. He's asked me to tell you this: Some Starbucks have "gone green" and have eco-friendly restrooms. Which may cause the lights to go off after a couple of minutes and leave you stranded in the dark. And that makes it a challenge to search for toilet paper. So, when the lights go off you may have to jump up (if you're not standing) and move around to get the lights back on! Quite funny, if you ask me. Unless, of course, it's you who the lights go off on. :)
Walmart: It's simple. They're not always the cleanest, but they have seat covers. Good luck getting their hand-dryers to work though (Once again, I added that). Oh, these aren't one-person restrooms either. SO, you get the privilege of witnessing how many NASTY, UNCLEAN people there are in this world who don't wash their hands (or even look at theirselves in the mirror on the way out-- because that's a must). I know this to be fact because being pregnant (now two years in a row) has caused me to use many public restrooms myself.
So, there you have it. Hope you find that information useful. :)
