Week 4

Hallie's firsts: smiling while awake, grunting and cooing, following objects, vacation.

This week we've seen Hallie become more alert! She's started smiling while she is awake. The first time I noticed this was before changing a dirty diaper. I took her hands, clapped them together and said, "yay!" She smiled, so big. And of course, I tried again (and again) but no smile. Also, we've noticed that she is grunting a LOT more. I call her "my little grunter." In between all the grunting noises, she'll coo. I notice this early in the morning or in the evening when she's most active and alert. She's beginning to focus on objects and follow them. She will follow the mobile as it turns, stare at the toys hanging from her infant seat, and glare at herself in the mirror. Also, she will turn her head to follow a rattle or if she hears our voices. One day, Austin called on his lunch break and I put him on speaker so he could talk to Hallie. When she heard his voice, her eyes were so big and she turned her head from side to side looking for him. It was the sweetest thing. This week she started drinking 4oz of milk!

Hallie's first vacation! Daddy had to work a few flood claims in Nashville, so we decided to go too. She enjoyed the car rides. We did a 3 hour bus tour around the city, and Daddy carried her around in a BabyBjorn (baby carrier). She slept most of the trip, woke up once to eat, and enjoyed being in the carrier close to daddy. She got to see Ryman Theater (Grand Ole Opry), several singers homes, and go to a dinner theater. We love traveling and look forward to taking her many places in the future!
